On Vacation

On Vacation

beach shoesWhat do you do when you are going to be away for a couple of weeks and you have made a commitment to yourself that you will produce a weekly blog? Well you sit down and write three in a row and have them ready to go at the push of a button. Seems easy right… Think again. This is that third blog, and as I sit down to write it I’m at a loss. Now this isn’t that unusual actually, many weeks, as Wednesday rolls around I realize that I have to start thinking about what I will be posting on the coming Friday, and have no idea what I’ll be writing about and then it just comes. But after just writing two other posts (for the two previous weeks), the subject matter is a little hard to come by. I’m tempted to write a retrospective of the past 50 weeks of posts, but since 52 is only a few weeks away and being one year since I started, I want to keep number 52 as a special post to reflect on the past year. So here I am at the keyboard just typing away what comes to my mind.

Everyone needs a vacation but it does create a few challenges when you are self-employed. One of the advantages of being a coach is that I do most of my work remotely so it doesn’t matter where I am, and if I need to I can still do a session or two using Skype. I could also lug my laptop along, but then it becomes too much of a temptation to do more that the odd call. It’s bad enough having the tablet and cell phone. In my previous role my spouse would threaten to through my cell into the ocean or down the toilet if I used it on vacation:). Being self-employed though you kind of need to stay connected, a missed call or email could mean the loss of a significant contract. So I’ll take my cell phone, my tablet but leave the laptop behind. I’ll just have to put my posts onto a memory stick and use a computer somewhere to post the blogs…

So that’s my rambling for this post, and to top it off I don’t have my editor available to smooth out the rough edges, so this week you get me as I am. I have a number of small quote book next to my computer, it’s where I get a lot of my quotes I use in my posts. So I leave you this week with this one to ponder (I think it’s kind of fitting for what I have just written).
