Try It… It’s Worth It!

One of the keys to giving team members recognition is that you need to “know” them first. Understanding what they need in terms of recognition. If you have been following me for a while, you will know the importance of understanding the behaviour patterns of your team. Is that hard work? yes, it is, does it take time to do this? yes it does. But it is worth it in the long term. It is how leaders get extraordinary things done In organizations. This week’s vlog post explores this topic….

How Do You Tie Recognition to Values?

Kouzes and Posner state that one of the practices that exceptional leaders do is tie recognition to shared values. So how do you do that? In this week’s Vlog post I talk about how one of my clients did this by tying success stories to the shared values of the team. He uses staff meetings and white boards in the office to communicate these successes which in turn reinforces those shared values. What do you do? I’d love to hear about them and share others on this site.

And The Reward Goes To?… Giving Recognition

Kouzes and Posner state that “getting extraordinary things done in organizations is hard work. People become exhausted, frustrated, and disenchanted”. So encouraging the heart of your team is a very important past of being a leader. It’s about inspiring others with courage and hope.  One of the ways to do this is to show genuine appreciation for a job well done. Making them feel like heroes.

When was the last time you gave a positive “high five” to someone? When was the last time you received one? What is the 3 – 1 ratio, and are you doing it? Watch this week’s Vlog post to find out….

Encourage the Heart: Recognition is the key

We’ve come to the final practice, the final practice in Kouzes and Posner’s, The Leadership Challenge. Over the last number of weeks, I have been going through the different practices, the five practices, and then the six behaviors that go with each of those practices. And now we come to the final one which is encourage the heart. And for me, this is the fun one. Recognizing and rewarding those we work with. In this week’s vlog we explore a couple of ways of doing that…
