Interview with Tammy Dunnett for the Leadership Communications Expo

This week’s Vlog post is an interview I did a few weeks ago for the Leadership Communications Expo hosted by Tammy Dunnett. It was my privilege to be one of many communication experts and gurus speaking on communications from the leadership perspective. It’s a bit longer than my usual vlog post but I believe you will find it informative and relevant for todays leaders. As always, I value your comments and suggestions for future posts.

Why Soft Skills part II

This is a reposting of a vlog post I produced in the fall of 2019, and is part two of last week’s post.

The IBM Institute for Business Value recently surveyed approximately 5,670 executives across 48 countries to learn more about the skills needed to execute business strategies. The top finding of the research is that approximately 120 million workers may need to be retrained or reskilled as a result of AI and intelligent automation. Yet, the research also revealed that, while technical and digital skills were still in high demand, executives are placing highest priority on behavioral—or soft skills (Josh Bersin).

The Leadership Challenge: A personal review

For 33 weeks I systematically did a personal deep dive into the work of Jim Kouzes and Barry Moore, The Leadership Challenge: How to make extraordinary things happen in organizations. This wasFor 33 weeks I systematically did a personal deep dive into the work of Jim Kouzes and Barry Moore, The Leadership Challenge: How to make extraordinary things happen in organizations. This was my interpretation of what I took from this amazing leadership book. As I talk about, this work had a significant impact on my own leadership journey, so much so that I completed the Facilitator training and also became an LPI coach so that I could not only understand the model better but so that I could use the principles in my professional coaching practice.

The LPI360 is the leadership assessment that comes with The Leadership Challenge Model. Kouzes and Posner took the five leadership practices, Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act & Encourage the Heart, that they observed leaders engaging in to make extraordinary things happen in organizations, and attributed six behaviours to each practice. These are behaviours most of us do in leadership roles, but it’s the frequency at which we do them that has the most impact.
