What Are Microaggressions & How Do We Deal with Them?

First, let me apologize for the length of this week’s vlog, however the topic is so important that I couldn’t break it up into smaller sections…. So, please sit down and allows your self to dig into this topic.

In this week’s vlog post in my series on DEI, a deeper dive, we take a look at addressing Microaggressions. Words and behaviors can have harmful and long-lasting effects. They hold the power to make individuals feel as though they do not belong. Microaggressions are among these harmful acts, and they can be found everywhere, including the modern workplace. Let’s explore in more detail what microaggressions are and how they show up and, what can we do about them.

DEI – The Fallout from Biases: Stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, harassment.

In this post I continue to look at Breaking Down Social Biases and what biases lead to – the outcomes of bias. Bias is common in many aspects of our lives. To make sense of everything around us, we often categorize the things we experience or people we encounter.  Biases may be conscious or unconscious, in which the most extreme forms can lead to harassment, discrimination, or violence. In this week’s post I explore stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, and harassment and ways in which we combat them.

Breaking Down Social Biases

In this post I want to look at Breaking Down Social Biases. Bias is common in many aspects of our lives. To make sense of everything around us, we often categorize the things we experience or people we encounter.  The problem with this is when it creates a divide between humans and social groups. Social biases are inaccurate social assumptions, judgments, and unfair treatment. These biases can be formed based on religion, sex, or race. They have a negative impact on the shaping of an organization and the development of social norms. Biases may be conscious or unconscious, in which the most extreme forms can lead to harassment, discrimination, or violence.

This week we start a two-part section on Diversity, the different forms of diversity and the impacts that they can have on the workplace.

Our diverse world is made up of many values, cultures, and ways of interacting with others. Workplace diversity recognizes and values differences. .A workplace culture is determined by its employees and the diverse traits, abilities, and backgrounds that are present These traits help to set people apart from one another. A team that is built with diverse individuals is one that is creative and successful. There are many kinds of diversity that can be found within the workplace. Some dimensions of diversity are visible, whereas others are not.
